The video kicks off with a relatable problem:
"Guys, we have a problem. There are too many AI tools out there and it is overwhelming."
The creator, Sam Fabio, shares his frustration:
"Tired of writing prompt after prompt after prompt on different tools and getting horrible results."
He admits:
"Personally, I've stopped jumping on every new tool. And what I'm doing instead is I try to identify the really good ones and stick to them."
Goal of the video:
Test seven AI design tools for UI design and prototyping, using one prompt for all, with no prompt editing or refinement.
He promises:
"By the end of this video, you will have a good idea of what the quality of the output for each tool looks like and that should help you make a decision on which ones to stick to so you don't get overwhelmed like me."
He introduces himself:
"If you're new here, my name is Sam Fabio. I've been a product designer for 9 years and in that time I work with startups in Lagos, Nigeria, and a few ho companies in the UK including Deliveroo and Monto Bank."
The tools are:
Design Task:
"The goal is to design a simple back office tool for gym owners. The gym owners will be able to use this tool to store their profiles of their members, create new classes, and manage appointments and bookings."
Each tool will be scored on three criteria (5 points each, total 15):
Interactivity
"How well the tool can introduce interactive elements like forms, over states, and actions just from one prompt. This basically shows how much initiative the tool can take from one prompt."
Control
"How easy it is for users to make changes to the design so that it can suit their preferences."
Visual Design
"How clean and modern the design generated is."
To begin, Sam needs:
He uses mobin.com for inspiration:
"Mobin literally has any kind of real world design patterns you're looking for."
He searches for dashboards and downloads a screen to use as a reference.
He also shares a promo code for Mobin:
"Mobin told me to tell you that if you use my promo code.com/samour, you'd get 20% off on their paid plan. I think that's a good deal."
Sam introduces meta prompting:
"Meta prompting is when you describe a goal you want to achieve to a foundational AI model like Chachipity or CRUD. Then you ask it to generate the prompt that you can use on another AI tool."
He explains:
"It's like asking your friend who already understands you to help you get your thoughts across to their friend because you haven't really met them and don't understand them yet."
He warns:
"Please, please, please and please don't just copy and paste the prompt generated by Chachup into another tool. Read the prompt and refine it."
He adds the Mobin UI inspiration to the prompt and sends it to all seven tools.
Sam shares a surprising stat:
"82% of the people that watch this channel regularly haven't subscribed. That's a poor stat. So, if you're one of those 82%, what are you waiting for? Hit that subscribe button and my promise to you is to make sure you never stop learning on this channel. Do we have a deal?"
"The fact that this thing is stuck behind the navbar is really going to make it lose some points."
"I would have loved if it pulled in some avatars or even initials into this profile."
"One thing I like is like this edit with Lovable feature that allows me to be able to make changes and make edits. I think that's the kind of control that I'm talking about."
"This is so cool. It's actually done so much from just one prompt, you know."
"I think this is a really cool tool that is already standing out."
"I would love to be able to fill a form. So 2.5 for interactivity."
"Honestly feels like a not so finer version of lovable and v 0ero."
"The schedule page here is just an accessibility mess. Like I can't see anything on this schedule page."
"Overall, I'm quite unimpressed by Firebase Studio."
S Tier (12+ points):
"Polyt, which I literally just knew about at the time of making this video, takes the crown for the only S tier UI and code generation AI tool. Poly actually surprised me and I think more designers should try it out."
A Tier (10+ points):
B Tier (7.5+ points):
C Tier (Below 7.5):
Web app prototyping:
"Something I've noticed with these tools we've explored are that they're not really great with iOS or Android app designs. They are really good at prototyping and they're better suited to web apps."
Invitation to discuss:
"You can also be the judge. You saw the output from each tool. So, let me know in the comment section if you have a different opinion about the ranking. Let's discuss."
Teaser for next video:
"Right here is a video that will be coming up soon on how you can use more powerful AI tools like Cors to design native iOS apps without writing a single line of code."
| Tool | Interactivity | Control | Visual Design | Total | Tier |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Polyt | 3.5 | 4.5 | 4 | 12 | S |
| Lovable | 3.5 | 4 | 3.5 | 11 | A |
| V0 | 3.5 | 2.5 | 3.5 | 10 | A |
| Bold New | 3 | 2 | 2.5 | 7.5 | B |
| Replit | 2.5 | 2.5 | 2 | 7 | C |
| Magic Patterns | 2.5 | 2.5 | 2.5 | 7 | C |
| Firebase Studio | 2.5 | 2 | 1.5 | 6 | C |
If you want to avoid being overwhelmed by the flood of AI design tools, focus on the ones that deliver quality, control, and good design.
Polyt is the surprise winner, but Lovable and V0 are also strong choices.
Remember:
"Don't just copy and paste promptsβrefine them to get the best results!"
And most importantly:
"Hit that subscribe button and my promise to you is to make sure you never stop learning on this channel."
