In the exciting Season 10 premiere of "Hawaii Five-0," the team welcomes a new member, faces a deadly mystery, and says an emotional goodbye to an old friend. This episode continues right where the last season left off, drawing fans back into the show's signature mix of action, suspense, and warm camaraderie.
The story opens by revealing the aftermath of last season's shocking shooting. Jerry, the beloved conspiracy theorist of the team, was the one hit by a would-be assassin's bullet. Two weeks later, he's recovering in the hospital and questioning his life choices. As he plays Battleship with Junior, Jerry wonders aloud:
"Is a life spent immersed in D&D campaigns a life well lived?"
Later, we see Tani arriving to take Junior (dressed in a tuxedo) to the opera. She jokes about planning to nap through the performance, but ends up captivated by the show — until chaos erupts when a body is discovered in a box seat. Tani and Junior's sleuthing quickly turns dangerous as a sniper fires in the lobby, forcing them to dodge bullets and dive into action.
McGarrett is pulled away from his first date with a new character, Brooke, and arrives on the scene, launching into the series' trademark rooftop chase. He pursues the sniper across Honolulu's rooftops, even risking a leap across a chasm to grab a skinny drain pipe, but ultimately the suspect escapes.
The victim is identified as a Triad boss. The investigation leads Steve and Danny to a sketchiest of meetings — guns drawn on the side of a highway — with CID Sergeant Quinn Liu, played by new cast member Katrina Law. The encounter is tense, but Danny, feeling déjà vu from his own past with McGarrett, gets everyone to lower their weapons. Quinn reveals that the sniper was one of two military vets under her watch who disappeared without warning.
Steve and Danny's investigation soon turns grim. They track the sniper to a scene where he has taken his own life after kidnapping a doctor to treat his wounds, leaving more questions than answers.
Meanwhile, Adam meets with Yakuza bigwigs, including Tamiko Masuda's father, trying to piece together who killed the Triad boss. Suddenly, Quinn bursts in to warn them she's tracked the sniper's accomplice to the location. Her warning comes just before sniper bullets tear through the restaurant windows, hitting many inside. During the chaos, Quinn shields Masuda, getting grazed by a bullet herself. The sniper escapes spectacularly by commandeering a monster truck, and McGarrett and Danny, despite a dramatic pursuit, are unable to catch up.
Regrouping at HQ, the team tries to connect the dots. Adam summarizes their findings: the murdered Triad and Yakuza bosses were once enforcers for a local loan shark named Zhang. A third partner in crime had just finished a long prison term, only to be found tortured and dead — clearly, someone is hunting down the old crew.
With only Zhang left as a target, Five-0 rushes to his home, barely in time to confront the shooter. A brutal fight between Steve and the attacker unfolds, culminating in a dramatic tumble off a balcony. As the gunman is about to shoot Steve, Quinn steps in, gives the attacker a chance to surrender, but when he refuses:
"She puts a bullet in him."
The truth finally surfaces: the mastermind is Wes Cullen, a wealthy real estate developer guest-starred by Rob Morrow. Years ago, Cullen dumped Zhang on a loan, which led to the tragic deaths of his own wife and child. He spent years reinventing himself and plotting vengeance, enlisting traumatized war veterans to carry out his deadly plan.
The next day, the team gathers for a beach party to celebrate Jerry's recovery, hosted by the ever-resourceful Kamekona. Quinn also checks in, learning that Wes Cullen can't be charged just yet, but is invited to stick around and help pursue justice.
Jerry then surprises everyone with heartfelt news:
"While I will forever love my Five-0 ohana, I need to step away and embark on the next chapter of my life — writing a book connecting the Federal Reserve to the escaped Alcatraz prisoners sinking of the Titanic. But I'm always around for the occasional consult."
The team, now including Quinn, shares a group hug, demonstrating their strong bond. However, the episode ends on a suspenseful note: at Steve's home, someone is shown planting a bomb in his toolbox, hinting that new troubles are already looming on the horizon.
With plenty of action, a splash of humor, and big changes to the Five-0 family, the Season 10 premiere delivers everything fans love — while setting up thrilling new storylines. Katrina Law's arrival shakes up team dynamics, and Jerry's bittersweet farewell marks the end of an era. As always, the stakes remain high for Hawaii's favorite crime fighters! 🌴🚓
